Group Action Minutes
Everyone present
What was addressed:
- Poster Finalised
- Script/Role-play Finalised
- Bike hired
Despite a 'not so smooth' start to the day the presentation itself went quite well in my opinion. I was still sick with the flu after six days of recovery and I had a stomach bug on top of that. I got in a little late because I was hiring out the City Cycle bike for the presentation. When I did arrive I found everyone waiting outside because there was another class in our room, which is usually free, so we moved to the computer area and worked from there. Alex made an awesome poster to go with our presentation.

Even though this is an interactive poster, we figured it would be easier to make it in Power Point to create hyper links for each button.

With most of our marks going into the Role play rather than the information provided, we decided that would be our main focus.
Alex was the narrator whilst the rest of us acted out the role plays. The scripts we wrote were more loose dot points and the actors was required to improvise the rest so if we were a little short on time we could add in extra. I started the introduction by riding into the classroom and up to the rest of the group on the City Cycle bike to the song of Bicycle Race by Queen.
Deni: Hey guys! Lets ride over to South Bank on the City Cycle. I got a picnic lunch and everything.
Group: Nah, it's too bothersome. Plus we could just as easily catch the bus or train.
Deni: Oh come on. it's great exercise, it's good for your health.
Group: No, We can just walk there then.
Deni: So you won't do it for yourself?
Group: No
Deni: Then what about for someone else?
Alex introduced the Triple C team and the problem City Cycle currently faces. He then introduces the next act which is two uni students after the 'Twilight Ride'
Scene: Two young adults walk/ride in
Cyclist 2: I know. Riding around at dawn is so refreshing and the city looks so beautiful at this time.
Cyclist 1: Yeah. The lights are just turning on, the sun is setting and the heat of the day is gone. Not to mention with so many people involved in the Twilight Ride I felt safe. I'd love to do this again.
Alex then talked a little about our proposed solution of the Twilight Ride then introduced the next act which was a monologue by Jess
Single parent: When I heard about the raffle I thought it would be a bit of fun to help charity. I also thought that if we won something then it would get the kids excited about riding bikes. It got me thinking about how it would be nice to take the kids into south bank in the holidays and ride around without having to worry about the hassle of taking our bikes on the train.
Alex then introduced the next act which was a monologue by Nick
Business Man: When I heard that the money from the weekly sign up was going to charity it gave me a reason to sign up. I figured that I could test out riding the city cycle bikes into work for a week to see if I liked it while knowing that the $11 it would cost me was going to a good cause. I actually found that I enjoyed the ride into work. The exercise helped wake me up and I felt raring and ready to go when I got to work, not to mention my stomach is liking me for it. I'm seriously considering signing up for an annual membership and adding the ride into my morning ritual.
Alex then spoke a little about the future aspirations of this plan then we each spoke a little about other planned ideas we had for the City Cycle including making the fundraiser into an annual event and other activities we had in store.
Overall I think we all did a pretty good job. I was surprised by Jess's monologue, she put so much more relevant information and gave us a lot more time. Alex's idea to talk about our other ideas was great too, good on the spot improvisation.
At the end of all the presentation we were each given some monopoly money and we had to invest a portion of it into another groups plan. at the end we counted up all the money to see who's the most favourable. We came in second with the other two groups close behind. The at home gardening group won by a landslide, with no surprise. I think most people, including myself, would buy their product if it existed.
It's a shame that this may be my final class with these people, but it was still a lot of fun. Mathew was a great tutor and most of my class mates we're fun but serious about their work. Anyone could tell they were putting a lot of effort into their work.
